On Jan. 19 Den 8 went to the Tribune-Review Printing facility at Thorn Hill Industrial Park in Warrendale.  We had a guided tour by Ms. Terri Minert, who showed us and explained about all of the departments in the plant including circulation, advertising and distribution; we met one of the Sports Editors who showed us the page he was working on; we went to the print shop where they create the metal plates that the paper is printed from, and we saw the presses in action.

We also worked on some magic tricks and played games in keeping with the month's theme of "Amazing Games".

Tiger Den 8 started the year off by learning about their new friends.  The boys worked in pairs to discover each other's favorite things and made a small poster using pictures cut from magazines depicting those things.

In Oct. we had our own Adventures in Books by sharing a book from home that has a courageous character in it; made bookmarks; went to the Northland Library for our GoSeeIt; and even learned some "reading" songs that we shared with everybody around the bonfire at Reily's Farm.

We rolled right into Nov. with Seeds of Kindness by being kind to our local wildlife by making a bagel birdfeeder; collecting canned goods for the local food bank since levels are so low right now; and making cards to brighten up the day for the residents at Little Sisters of the Poor.  We have the opportunity for 2 GoSeeIts with the other Tiger Den - Den 7, by visiting the McCandless Police Station and the Ingomar Volunteer Fire Station on back to back Saturdays.

Of course we have been working diligently on completing the Bobcat and many Tiger requirements as well as many electives.

On Dec. 1 Den meeting Mrs. Schueler, Killian's mom, did a group activity that got the boys reading nutrition labels and thinking about good eating habits.  She distributed nice handouts and window clings to help reinforce healthy eating.  They also talked about visiting the hospital.  This covers Requirement 3D.

In conjunction with us eating healthy, Patrick's brother Alexander brought in his leopard gecko, Gordon, and talked about how we have to take care of our pets and make sure they eat healthy too. Many boys indicated they have pets so they are already aware of some things we have to do to take care of them. Elective 31- Learn about animals

On Dec. 8 Mrs. Staniec, Nicholas' mom, led the boys to work on our final Den Achievement activity, Make a Family Scrapbook - 1D.  The boys were extremely creative using the materials Mrs. Staniec supplied and the photos they brought from home.  To celebrate the holidays Mrs. Silberman, Adam's mom, taught the Den how to play the Dreidel game.
